Believe it or not, the Shasta Mountain that consists snow year round melts and creates several streams that feed lake Shasta. There are three main rivers :

the McCloud, Sacramento, and the Pit rivers are the three largest that feed the lake. The largest of these, the Sacramento river, actually begins as a spring coming out of a hill in the park in Mt. Shasta City (Siskiyou county)
