the Mississippi River
The east was bounded by the Mississippi and the West ( andSouth) by the Missouri River.
The borders of US were from Georgia in the South to the Great Lakes in the Noth. The Mississippi River formed the western border.

The Mississippi River. in 1783 Spain still had control of everything west or south of the Mississippi river including Florida and the Gulf of Mexico.
The border between New York State, USA and Ontario, Canada is formed entirely by waterways. Lake Ontario is the longest stretch of the border. The rivers which form the rest of the border are the Niagara River, which flows from Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, and the Saint Lawrence River, which flows from Lake Ontario out to the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and the Atlantic Ocean.

The Murray River forms the border between New South Wales and Victoria.
The rivers that form part of the border between New South Wales and Queensland are the Dumaresq (pronounced Dew-MERR-eck), the Macintyre and the Tweed. At the coast, the Tweed River forms the first part of the border. Further inland, the Macintyre and Dumaresq Rivers each form part of the border. The entire border is not actually formed by rivers.
The Connecticut River forms the eastern border of Vermont. The river is 410 miles long and is the longest river in New England.
The Hudson River separates New Jersey from New York City.
