The periphery of the Deccan Plateau is marked by mountain ranges called the Western Ghats and the Eastern Ghats. These mountain ranges run parallel to the west and east coasts of India, respectively, and help form the natural boundary of the plateau.
The mountain range to the east depends on the location you are referring to. In North America, the Rocky Mountains are to the east of the Pacific Coast, and the Appalachians are to the east of the Mississippi River. In Europe, the Alps are to the east of the Rhine River.
