While the Sahara Desert is normally an inhospitable region, it lies north of the equator and as such does experience seasonal variations.

Most countries that lie within the region that covers the Sahara simply refer to it as the wet or dry season, there is very little variance with respect to autumn and spring.

During the "dry" months there is no rain and the temperatures during the day are scolding, even the night temperatures can be well above 30 degrees Celsius.

In the "wet" months intermittent rain (mostly torrential) can fall, on average half the Sahara receives 20mm of rain per year and the other half less than 100mm of rain. Temperatures during the cooler months can drop to 20 degrees Celsius with night time temperatures sometimes down to 0 Celsius.

There are also recorded occurrences of snow at high altitudes during this time.
