The Tower of London is a massive stone tower at the centre of William the Conqueror's London fortress (on the north bank of the River Thames) built in the early 1080s. Through the centuries that followed, successive monarchs added to the fortifications. The Tower has been used as a prison and is integral to English History. Today the Tower houses the British Crown Jewels.
