The Indus Valley Civilization (Harappans) had 1. good public wells (they had good water in the wells) 2. good sewer systems (wastewater flowed out to the drains located under the streets and than was carried to the sewer pits beyond the city walls).
They originate in the Himalayas, on the Plateau of Tibet.
The water coming into the river is not from a smaller river, it is from melting ice.
The fertile soil that the Harappan civilization farmed was fed by rich silt from the Indus River. The annual flooding of the river deposited nutrient-rich silt onto the surrounding floodplains, creating ideal conditions for agriculture. This allowed the Harappans to thrive and develop a sophisticated urban society.
The Indus River is located in Asia. It flows through Pakistan, Tibet and India. It is about 2,000 miles long and is fed from drainage off of the Himalayan Mountains.

The fertile soil of the Harappan civilization was primarily fed by the rich silt deposits from the Indus River. The periodic flooding of the river deposited nutrient-rich sediments along its banks, creating ideal conditions for agriculture.

The river Indus flows from the Tibetan mountains down through Pakistan before emptying into the Arabian Sea. As it makes its journey it is fed by the river Kabul. Together these rivers irrigate the entire length of Pakistan. The four rivers Jhelub Chenab, Ravi, Sutlej also join the Indus and where they all meet is Known as Panj Nadh.
A lake has a limited quantity and the lake is fed from the spring underneath. Its unlikely that a lake can feed a river.
