Woodrow Wilson signed the legislation designating the Grand Canyon as a national park on 1919 February 26.

The law establishing the national parks system states that any portion administered by the NPS "Have relatively spacious land and water areas, so outstanding in quality and beauty as to make imperative their preservation by the federal government for the enjoyment, education and inspiration of all people." If the Grand Canyon does not meet these criteria, then no place on our planet does.
