Bussey Bridge was built in 1890, 3 years after the horrific bridge collapse that killed 23 people and injured dozens more. It is widely considered to be the first major train crash in the country, and brought sweeping changes and new regulations to bridge work worldwide. It also in a way, was a godsend to Roslindale which saw a dramatic rise in population after the collapse with those who came to see the wreck firsthand, deciding to move their families to the neighborhood.
