The first Seven Mile Bridge, connecting The Florida Keys to Key West, was completed in 1912. This original bridge was part of the Overseas Railway, which was constructed by Henry Flagler. After being damaged by hurricanes over the years, it was ultimately replaced by a new bridge that opened in 1982. The current Seven Mile Bridge is primarily used for vehicle traffic.
