The planet Earth has had water for billions of years, which scientists believe originally came from comets that crashed into the Earth in the early history of the planet. Once the water arrived on Earth, it began a cycle of constant motion driven by sunlight. Warmth makes water evaporate, and then when enough water has evaporated it rains down, and the rainwater eventually flows downstream and forms rivers.

From rain and snow.
