The Three Gorges Dam is a large barrier that affects the flow of the Chang Jiang (Yangtze River). It is both beneficial for flood control and hydropower generation, but also has environmental and social consequences.

The Huang He (Yellow River) and the Chang Jiang (Yangtze River) were crucial to China's early history as they served as vital sources of water, fertile land, and transportation routes. The Huang He is often referred to as the "cradle of Chinese civilization" because its fertile plains supported early agricultural societies, leading to the rise of dynasties and complex societies. Meanwhile, the Chang Jiang facilitated trade and cultural exchange, connecting diverse regions of China and contributing to economic development. Together, these rivers shaped the social, political, and economic landscape of ancient China.
