The Pechora River lies in northeastern Russia. The river flows for approximately 1,124 mi (1,809 km) beginning in the northern Ural Mountains. The river's course flows south, then west and north through the forest and tundra regions of the Komi Republic and the Nenets Autonomous Area to enter Pechora Bay an inlet of the Barents Sea.
