The ridge of the Great Smokey Mountains form the boundary between Tennessee and North Carolina. They are a subrange of the Appalachian range and a part of the Blue Ridge Physiographic Province. To the West is the Cumberland Plateau.
North Carolina is the only bordering/boundary state east of Tennessee. This is because Tennessee was originally the western counties of North Carolina. It became the Southwest Territory in 1790 and a state in 1796.
It is located on the border between Tennessee and North Carolina.

It is located between Cherokee, North Carolina and Gatlinburg, Tennessee, about 40 miles southeast of Knoxville, Tennessee. The park includes over 520,000 acres of land (276,000 acres are located in North Carolina and 244,000 in Tennessee).
Great Smoky Mountains National Park is located in both Tennessee and North Carolina. The Great Smokies are supposed to be some of the oldest mountains on earth.
