The warm current from the Gulf of Mexico, known as the Gulf Stream, follows North along the East coast of America. Then the current crosses the Atlantic to reach the Irish and British Isles. It is this warm current that give Britain its warm, but wet winter climate.
Britain took over all the land from the Atlantic coast to the Mississippi river.
