In some cases, a redbird tree's roots may becomeing above the ground just because that's the way it wants to grow. No matter if you plant it deep enough, some trees will still have roots which grow above ground. Planting trees too deeply could stress them and kill them.
Plants roots that are above ground are called aerial roots. Examples are some types of orchids, mangroves, and banyon trees.
Large Buttress roots stand above the ground in order to give support to the trees and they also enable the trees to gain more nutrients. The buttress roots can intertwine with the roots of other trees in the area, this can give more support to the other trees aswell.
Trees that live in places with high winds are able to bend with the wind. Also, all plants have roots that help keep them in the ground.

Tall Trees need to be have long roots because the xylem and the phloem of the tall trees is long and heavy. Also All trees use roots for gathering nutrients from the ground. In the woods tree roots can be much longer than the width of its canopy. Trees also rely on the roots to support the trees enormous weight of the structure above the ground. They anchor the tree firmly in the soil to hopefully withstand all that nature can throw at it including wet soil and high winds.
That is the way some kinds of trees such as the mountain ash grow. The roots are naturally shallow and stick up above the ground. Further it may kill the tree if you try to cover them up with dirt.
because the roots started to grow and pushed up a little and the rest of it is taken care of by rain moving the dirt off
The rainforest is divided into five layers: the emergents/overstory, the canopy, the understory, the shrub layer and the forest floor. The emergents, as I learned to call them, or the overstory is the very highest part of the rainforest. It reaches about 150ft or 45m above the ground. They are tall trees which stick out of the top of the rainforest. The canopy is where most of the trees are. It is 100-125ft or 30-37.5m above the ground. It is a thick, dense mass of trees. The understory is simply slightly smaller or younger trees then the canopy which reach between about 50-75ft or 15-22.5m above the ground. The shrub layer is the small trees and bushes near the ground, about 25ft or 7m above the ground. This is where many bugs and spiders live. And finally, the forest floor. See the link below for a diagram and more information about the rainforest and the rainforest layers. It has however missed out the shrub layer.
Not all maple tress have roots growing above the soil. The roots of the Silver Maple Tree grow above the ground and often ravage things when planted in a home garden as they have very strong roots. the Norway Maple tree however, has roots growing just below the ground surface. Check out the link for a more detailed explanation.
a forest, it comes from trees
