Gypsum is a soft stone. It only has 2 on the Mohs Hardness Scale. Anything harder than it will polish it.
Soft minerals, such as calcite or gypsum, would most likely become rounded at a faster rate when tumbled along a stream bottom due to their lower hardness compared to harder minerals like quartz or diamond. Soft minerals are more easily abraded and worn down by the forces of erosion in the stream, resulting in quicker rounding of their edges and surfaces.
