Why does the Colorado river no longer reach the ocean?

Possibly because the 1922 Colorado River Compact overestimated the average annual flow by as much as 20 to 30 percent. The underlying aquifer has also been depleted by both municipalities and agricultural irrigation useage.

The Colorado River no longer reaches the Ocean because of all the water claims on it. So many people have bought water claims, and are using the water that as it flows from the mountains, south, it gets all used up before it can reach the Ocean! I believe that some reasearchers are trying to find a way to get more of the water into the Ocean.

Well, I suppose a lot of aquatic habitat will be lost, as well as the riparian habitats that surround the river. Animals will be forced to move elsewhere, or those that cannot will die.

For the cities that depend upon the Colorado, they will find another river to bleed dry.

It still exists, but it remains under serious pressure to provide adequate water for the growing needs of the population.
