It is so interesting and thought provoking one.

Actually wave motion is nothing but an up and down simple harmonic motion. So laterial movement of water in the mid of the sea. So boat is seen moving up and down. Now question arises. Then how do we have a flow of waves towards us while we are standing on the shore?

Yes we have to find the answer for this

As huge up and down oscillation is transferred from one region to the other and as the depth of the sea goes on decreasing as we move towards the shore, the up and down movement energy is converted to lateral movement energy. So the waves dash against the shore with enormous force. So interesting! Isn't it?

Who controls access to the topside of a moored submarine?

The topside watch will be charged with the comings and goings on the topside of the submarine (called a boat by those who sail on them) when the boat is tied to a pier or tender. There may be an officer of the deck there on some occasions, but when the boat is lying along side a tender or the dock of a submarine or naval base, security is such that the topside watch will be the lone crew member on the deck.

What pole is in the middle of a sailboat and holds up the sails?

The pole you are referring to is called the mast. If the boat only has one mast it is usually not in the middle of the boat but is normally found in the forward third of the boat.

When a boatman wants to move away from the bank he pushes the bank with a pole. Why?

The boatman pushes the bank with a pole to move the boat away because the pole allows for leverage and helps the boatman push against the immovable bank. This action helps propel the boat away from the bank by creating a reaction force.
