Because:
A. If you had never seen the area shown on said map before, you wouldn't know what on Earth (or Space) you were looking at!
B. If a foreign person was looking at said map and there was no title they wouldn't know what it was, so a title would be extremely important if it wa somewhere famous like The Grand Canyon or Lochness or The route to the nearest KFC
