Then, as select cutting was introduced, to avoid destroying the forests completely, a close relative, the more aggressive barred owl, began showing up in increasing numbers, displacing the spotted owl. The barred owl does well in cut over forests, and is pushing the spotted owl closer to the brink.

Ahhh an Strix nebulosa is a very large owl. Found in the Northern Hemishpere also called by other people Great Gray Ghost, Phantom of the north, Cinerous Owl, Spectral Owl, Lapland Owl, Spruce Owl, Bearded Owl and Sooty Owl. Adults have a big, rounded head with a grey face and yellow eyes with darker circles around them. The underparts are light with dark streaks; the upper parts are grey with pale bars. This owl does not have ear tufts and has the largest facial disk of any owl. A series of books called Guardians of Ga'Hoole have this owl in it. Infact one of the main chracters Called Twilight is a Great Gray owl
