1. the amazon basin holds 20% of the earth's fresh water.

2. it is a home to a variety of plants and animal life which are quiet rear in this world.

3. when attempts in the recent years were made to disturb this ecological balance by cutting trees in the amazon basin, disastrous consequences followed. the carbon dioxide level has risen and there is danger of global warming.

4. it has 6 million species of insects, a thousand species of fish and six hundred mammals.
