Why isn't the Dead Sea called the Salt Sea as it is called in Hebrew?

The Dead Sea comes from the Arabic, it is also occasionally known as The Sea of Lot. It's called the Dead Sea because the high salt level means that fish cannot live in the sea.

The English name has come from the Arabic source, rather than the Hebrew.

However, the Dead Sea is occasionally referred to as such in Hebrew, although perhaps not officially, as one can see in the popular Israeli song "Ein Gedi".
