Why shouldn't animals be kept in the zoo?

Most animals have a specialised diet. Interfering with their diet could make them very ill. The people who work in zoos are experts at knowing what the animals in their care should eat if they were in their own environment, and able to get their own food, whether it is meat, plants, insects, grains, etc. Feeding the animals food which they should not have, can make it difficult for zoo keepers to track if an animal is eating enough food, or make it hard to keep an animal healthy if they are already unwell.

There is nothing wrong with a well run zoo; the animals live longer and are healthier than in the wild. People also get to see animals from all parts of the world which they would otherwise be unable to see. Additionally animals should be kept in zoos to protect them from humans (e.g. Elephants and Rhino's being hunted for Ivory) and other predators, this is especially important for endangered species.

There is absolutely no logical reason not to have animals in a zoo. Some think it is bad because they do not "feel good" about these animals in zoos. Feeling good is far different then actual good. It is good for the animals in a zoo to be there.

First of all, just because something doesn't have human genes doesn't mean it doesn't have any rights. If humans have freedom, animals should have freedom too. Besides, animals would be more happy in the wild, because they get to be free. How would you feel if you were put into a cage as an exhibit? They aren't that different from us, I'll tell you that.
