They were going on a mountaineering holiday. They travelled by boat to get there. On the way, and before they had arrived at the mountaineering resort, the boat sank. The family drowned in their cabin on the boat.

"A family of 4 were going on a mountaineering holiday. The second morning they were all found dead in there cabin. The coroner declared that they had all died from downing. The faucets in the cabin had not been left on and the boiler and the water storage units were undamaged. There was no sign of foul play. What caused them to drown?

Clues:
1. They were a mile form the nearest lake.
2. It had not rained for 5 days, and not a flash flood.
3. It was not caused by problems with dam.
The solution, given by the person who submitted that riddle, was:
"They were travelling to their destination by cruise ship. The hull of the ship was rammed during the night, and their cabin was below the water line. The pressure of the water held the doors shut, they could not escape, and the rescuers were too late to save them."
