The Supercharger can be disconnected. My 1998 Ultra had a pulley lockup which caused the belt to come off. I pulled the intact supercharger belt out of the way of moving parts till I had a chance to work on it. A few months later I replaced the pulley and belt, which required raising the engine, pulling bolts out of the motor mount, and weaving the belt into place. I'm not sure it was worth the effort. The car runs very good without boost, for most driving. I continued to use premium fuel, of course. One could just cut the belt off and drive without the supercharger, if desired. So there you have it.
P.S. go to Discussion for more tips.
I have a 1999 with the 3800 engine. The owner's manual says the horsepower is 205 without the supercharger and 240 with the supercharger.
To remove the supercharger from a 1993 Buick Park Avenue Ultra, first ensure the engine is cool and disconnect the battery. Then, remove the air intake duct and any hoses connected to the supercharger. Next, detach the supercharger by unscrewing the mounting bolts, and carefully lift it off the engine, ensuring to disconnect any electrical connectors and vacuum lines. Be sure to seal or cover the intake manifold to prevent debris from entering during the process.
It might be the supercharger going bad. The supercharger has a little coupler that is located in between the supercharger nose and the main body. This coupler is located inside and once it starts to wear out it will start making a clunk sound. You can replace the coupler, replace the nose, or rebuild the whole supercharger. The supercharger has a single separate serpentine belt than the one for the accessories (alternator, a/c compressor, water pump) . The superchrager belt is a 6 rib 72" effective length. The accessories belt is a 6 rib 93.5" belt.
how do you remove a water pump on a 1998 buick park avenue?
A repair manual for the 1998 Buick Park Avenue would have a brakes repair diagram. A popular book is the Haynes Repair Manual.
My 1998 Park Avenue stalled. I cleaned the idle air control valve (IAC) and now it is fine.
