Actually, we don't have the exact equivalent translation to "Happy Anniversary" as the word "anniversary" contains a lot of uncertainties (such as anniversary for marriage? anniversary for important festival?......) An anniversary is the day and month on which an event occurred, or the celebration of the recurrance of that date. It comes from the Latin word "annus" which means a year. As an anniversary occurs it means an exact number of years has passed since the event it commemorates.

You'd more properly say "the anniversary of his (or her) death."
