By being granted a free ball due to a foul committed by your opponent, leaving the cue ball in a position where you can't see any red ball fully from both sides. A free ball allows you to nominate any colour as if it were red, then go for a colour and then resume your break with sequences of red-colour.
So, for instance, say you nominate a green as a free ball and then you follow with blue, you then score 8 points. Then you clear with, say, a break of 140 clearance. That's how you'd get 148
