Loosen the screws on the battery compartment door with a long Philips screwdriver. (two deep holes next to 'PUSH' switch)
Then remove the door. Insert 4 AAA-size batteries (I recommend alkaline), making sure to align the + and - symbols with the markings in the plastic.
Replace the door and tighten the screws.
