Since similes are comparisons and a form of metaphors you can make it more of a statement then a comparison... ie:
She's like a bull in a china shop (simile)
She's a bull in a china shop (metaphor)

As big as a GRUFFALO, the mountain towered over the landscape.
A simile.
A simile is a sentence comparing two or more objects by using the words "like" or "as." An example would be to say "Her hands were as clammy as a fish," or "His hair was as red as fire."
You should write a poem based on how you are feeling. You can look for inspiration from your love life.
as straight as a 2x4 chopped by Tim the tool man Taylor
"She has behaved like a twelve-year-old for the last twenty years."
A metaphor
An extended simile, also known as an epic simile, is a comparison that extends beyond the normal comparison. Milton uses them often to describe grand ideas because he wanted to write an epic poem.
As quick as a wink is a simile. ----
