How fast can you do the 4x4 rubics cube?

My average is about 45 seconds =( I'm slow compared to my friends. They're averages are about 30 seconds.

My best is 1.17 but most of my friends are at about 50 seconds.

The short answer is, anything under 2 minutes is excellent. Hardcore cubers will be able to solve the cube in less than 30 seconds and the best in the world generally can do this in 15 to 20 seconds. Keep in mind, that the unofficial world record is under ten seconds.

When you first learn to solve the Rubik's cubes, the beginner's method allows you to solve the cube in around 2 minutes and, as I said, this is great as many people can't solve this puzzle at all unassisted.

However, if you want to vastly improve your times, you need to begin to look at other approaches such as the 2-Look method and even the working corner (keyhole) method. These should enable you to solve the cube in under 1 minute.

For advanced users, the most popular approach is Jessica Fridrich's method and if you want to start breaking world records then you should start to employ this or intuitive approaches. These tend to follow F2L (First 2 Layers), OLL (Orientation of the Last Layer) and PLL (Permutation of the last layer).

The Average is probably somewhere between 10 years and never, because that is what everyone says.

Among the people that can solve the rubik's cube, it probably two and a half to three minutes.
