In Rubber Bridge, a rubber is a sequence of games. In each game, both participating pairs bid on a contract, and one of them wins the bid. If they succeed in performing the contract, they get a score according to the contract's complexity. If they fail, the other pair gets a score. A rubber ends when the cumulative score of a pair reaches a hundred points. Please see the related link for details.
Rubber game or rubber match: Term used for the third game of 3-game series when the two teams have split the first two games. Originally a card-playing term.
The term drives from contract bridge (the card game). There are two forms of bridge commonly played -- "duplicate", which is used in tournaments, and "rubber". A Rubber in rubber bridge consists of winning two out of three games, so if a match (or a series in sports) is tied at one-to-one, the "rubber" depends on winning that final game, hence the "rubber game" or "rubber match".
Some different types of bridge card games include Contract Bridge, Rubber Bridge, Duplicate Bridge, and Chicago Bridge. Each game has its own rules and variations, but they all involve strategic card play and teamwork with a partner.
