This letter is missing from the newer (contemporary) Greek alphabet.

There is though gap in the sequence of the Greek alphabet exposed due to the use of the Ancient Greek alphabet as numbers/numericals ( Α=1, Β=2, Γ=3, Δ=4, Ε=5, [F]=6, Ζ=7, ... Ι=10, Κ=20, Λ=30, Μ=40, Ν=50, Ξ=60, 0=70, Π=80, [?]=90, Ρ=100, Σ=200, ... ), reminding that there was a letter in that specific order in the ancient Greek alphabet which is missing to date.

We call this letter "Koppa" (qoppa). The figure of lightning (the pointed S) represents it quite well. The Greek philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras is referring to that letter.

The pronunciation of this letter was similar to "K" although in some combinations (e.g. QU) was pronounced just like the Latin/English letter "P". ( QU = P ).

Is there a letter Q in the Ancient Greek alphabet?

No, there is no letter Q in the Ancient Greek alphabet. The Greek alphabet does not have a character that corresponds directly to the Latin letter Q. Instead, Greek uses the letter "κ" (kappa) to represent the "k" sound, and the "kw" sound is typically represented by "κου" (kappa followed by omicron and upsilon).

There is no Q in the ancient greek alphabet. There was a qoppa, but it was an allophone for kappa - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qoppa I am doing a project for school right now on Ancient Greece. We have to have a word for each letter of the alphabet. For "Q" I put quail. The Greek god Hephaestus's' favorite bird was the quail.
