The Citrus Reticulata is often referred to as a "Mandarin Orange". The "Meyer Lemon", native to China, is believed to be a cross between a true lemon and a Mandarin Orange. It is actually sweet enough to be eaten out of hand. In both cases, the "M" begins a modifier, rather than the root name of the fruit.
