The American Civil War took place between 1861 and 1865, when the cotton-growing Southern states broke away from the USA and formed the Confederate States of America. They lost the war, and were reunited with the USA. Civil Rights was a theme that started to bulk-up in the 1950's after numerous civil rights organizations grew tired of injustices and separate laws depending on race. This led to the major protests of the 60's and the awarding of new rights under President Lyndon Johnson.
