The difference is that one is on and the other is off.
symbol of on delay timer
when off delay timer gets control signal, its NO(NORMALLY OPEN) contact become NC(NORMALLY CLOSED) for preset duration, and then become NO.
Timer relays are used in control circuitry. There are two main types, an (off delay) and an (on delay). If you want one device to turn off before the timer controlled device then you would use an off delay timer. If you want one device to turn on before the timer controlled device then you would use an on delay timer. When the timer is energized this starts the timer circuit in the relay to time out.
with an ON delay timer once the power has been appied to the timer unit, the timer contacts will change state-open/close after a preset time (for example A&B timers are adjustable anywhere from 0.05 seconds to 300 Hours) with a OFF delay these contacts change state after the power to the unit has been removed then the preset time will time out (this count dosen't start until the power is removed

the delay on jetta wipers is different. the delay is adjustable. if someone set the delay very long, you will think the delay is not working. here's how to shorten the delay. turn the wipers to delay (one click DOWN on the stalk). immediately turn it back off and now turn it back on. the delay is the length of time you had the wipers off between the two on's. for a 3 second delay, turn the wipers to delay, immediately turn them off, wait three seconds and turn them back on. for a 6 second delay, turn them on, immediately turn them off, wait 6 seconds and turn them back on.
A programmable timer usually just means a timer that can be programmed to go off at any time.
If the timer is not on then how can the pump turn off? The timer should have to be on for the pump to run in the first place. Can you ask the question in a different manner? Ken
