The hardest Pokémon card to find is often considered to be the 1998 Pikachu Illustrator card. Awarded to winners of a Pokémon illustration contest in Japan, only 39 copies were ever produced, making it extremely rare. Its unique artwork by Atsuko Nishida and status as a promotional card contribute to its high value, with one selling for over $5 million in a 2021 auction. Other rare cards, like the 1st Edition Charizard, are also highly sought after but are more available than the Pikachu Illustrator.
