Western Europe was once a heavily-forested area. The forests have thinned out due to housing and clearing of land. Oak, maple, and elm dominate the mid-section of Europe. The tundra vegetation of northern Europe consists of lichens, mosses, shrubs, and wild flowers. Olives, citrus fruit, figs, apricots, and grapes grow in the Mediterranean region.
There are a whole host of water deities, this is easily explained when one considers that the ancient people of the Mediterranean relied heavily on the sea and rivers for food and materials from trade.

There are really only two that stick out as peninsulas from a larger land mass- Italy and Greece. However, the Mediterranean also contains the islands of Sardinia, Sicily, Crete and Cyprus, as well as Corfu, Malta and Rhodes. The Southern seaboard of Turkey encroaches heavily upon the Northen Mediterranean, but can hardly be called a peninsula. Italy, Greece, and Spain. Spain and Portugal are in the Iberian Peninsula
Depending on whether you are talking about male or female plants- If females are left to grow unpollenated by male flowers, the tips will become heavily crystallised. Then plants would have to be harvested at the right time and in the right way.
1. White stands out better in low light conditions making it easier for insects to find. 2. As they bloom at night the plant does not have to waste resources producing coloured pigments (for petals) to attract day insects (such as bees) - most night blooming flowers are pollinated by moths and bats. 3. Night blooming flowers are normally heavily scented - which acts as an attractant for nocturnal insects and mammal's.
