Actually, Alpha Beta Chi is a local sorority at Emory & Henry College in Emory, VA. Founded in 1928 by 7 women who lived in Waterhouse dorm, it is the oldest sorority on campus. I pledged ABX in the fall of 1986 with 9 other women. That was a pretty long time ago.
At any rate, I seem to remember being taught that "Alpha", as the first letter in the Greek alphabet, represented our commitment to being leaders. "Beta" represented our commitment to scholarship. "Chi" represented our belief in Christianity.
