Madame Alexander is a manufacturer or dolls and dolls alone. ( unlike more diverse toymakers such as Mattel, Ideal, etc. They have been around at least since the twenties or thirties.
The value is determined by : 1. the year of the doll 2. Is the doll used or is it "mint" (still in the sealed package) 3. If you have an entire set of dolls from one particular year. 4. the year of the set. 5. If the set includes the colored doll sets that match the white set (2002,3 and 4). And 6. Amazingly, a huge number of various dolls. Seems in some cases buyers don't care if used or mint; multiples of the same doll are ok., they just want a lot of dolls. 7. the time of year.
The Madame Alexander dolls were introduced in 1923. The first collectable dolls were based on famous individuals such as Scarlett O'Hara from Gone with the Wind.

It does not appear that the Cher dolls were produced by Madame Alexander in their doll collections. Cher dolls were produced by Mego in 1976-1978, and Mattel in 2000.
