I think it would be more fun and personally rewarding (albeit probably immoral) to get away with any lie you told. Identifying any lie you hear will most likely only teach you things you wish you didn't know.
Knowing every lie, like Norval said, would lead to more hurt than not. Plus, just because you're aware of the lie, doesn't mean you get told the truth—that'd be infuriating. I'd take the get-away-with-it ability and rarely use it (besides if I'm planning a surprise or something).
Brilliant question ... I agree with the commentary that you'd expose yourself to some hurt by being able to detect lies, but I think you'd figure out how to not let little white lies bother you in context. Since everyone probably lies a little bit even if it's to simplify a story, I think you could tone those out and then be able to use the 'power' for when it mattered most. I think this would allow you to create more good by asking probing questions to get the bottom of answers when it mattered most. With great power, comes great responsibility.
Well if I had the capabilty to detect lies, I'd know that Trump & Co. are 100% full of excrement.
Now, on the other hand, what do we gain by lying? Oh sure our parent's told 'littlle white lies' to us, yet in reallity, they were full of $#*& !
If people believed every lie, that would be an incredibly powerful ability. There is a fantastic book series about this called Dagger and Coin by Daniel Abraham.
If you could detect any lie you hear, than you would be able to call out all of those people that just want to sound smart when aswering a question that they dont have the knowledge to answer.
I prefer to detect the lies, because that way I would know what kind of people I am dealing with. I could lie, but I earn nothing. I just evade what really happens.
hmm tough choice, because i'm pretty good with both, but i'd choose to tell a perfect lie
Detect a lie I hear. Because I do my best to be 100% honest with people anyway. No reason to lie.
I AGREE! it'd be fun to get away with a lie. then i'd be able to eat ALL the candy i wanted at school.
Most can detect movement ten feet away, however some can detect twenty or thirty feet.
It would have to do with the timing in the electronic circuit not being fast enough to detect a discernable echo.
None we can detect, since Neptune is to far away and has too thick an atmosphere fo us to be able to see the surface.
No. We would be unable to detect it but you can detect black holes(by xrays and light emmitted from material they are sucking up). You would be unable to detect it because if the two were moving away at a combined speed greater than that of light then light from the star could never reach the earth.
No he would not, but rather reveal it to you as a child of God.
LOL ... uhm.. if you would not want to die when it errupts then you would rather live away from it right?
They use their long neck too see above and detect predators from 1km. (one kilometer) away
one meter ayaw
I would rather be a werewolf. There are more perks (run away health for one). To be a vampire you have to die - which is discouraging.
Features of the Duga Soviet radar systems include being able to successfully detect rocket launches from 2,500 km away and there were only three built.
Hold up a piece of garlic and watch who screams and runs away
They can detect light(and tend to move away from it)
