the owners actually did not expect it to fall but recognized it when a tourist noticed on the 3rd June that 55 metres of the 110 metre garden had "dissapered"

The Holbeck Hall Hotel no longer exists. It crumbled into the sea due to erosion !

the holbeck hall hotel is in scarbrough england.
The Holbeck hotel was a hotel in Scarborough that collapsed in June 1993 after mass movement.
Holbeck Hall, a hotel in Scarborough, England, collapsed in 1993 due to coastal erosion. The cliffs supporting the hotel were gradually eroded by the sea, eventually causing a significant portion of the building to collapse into the sea below.
A landslide started underneath the hotel on 3-Jun-1993 and the heavy rain over the next couple of days caused parts of the hotel to collapse into the sea on 5-June. The remainder of the hotel was removed shortly after by a demolition company to prevent more of it collapsing and causing injury.
the hotel was built in 188o
If you want to know what caused the Holbeck Hall to collapse it was a landslide caused by the heat cracking the clay, which was what the cliff was made of, and then the rainwater going in to the cracks and when the rainwater froze and then melted it caused the cracks to expand. The sea was also eroding the bottom of the cliff! I hope this helps!
No, the Holbeck Hall Hotel was not rebuilt after the landslide in 1993. The landslide caused significant damage to the hotel, resulting in its eventual closure and demolition.
