three questions in one, eh? :)
1. Marriott Hotels are owned by the Marriott family. Yes the Marriotts are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church), but the church itself does not have anything to do with the hotels.
2. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) is a non-profit religious organization (a church). They are not a business. The Church does operate a religious book store, but the Church is not a business. In fact, church leaders are not paid, they are all volunteer!
3. They don't. The church tends to be very sensitive toward the Native Americans as well as other ethnicities. They strive to treat everyone with respect and obey the law. They might purchase land, but they would never steal it.
Nevada's first settlement was when the Mormons were there and the gold rush happened
The Patatyan and Anasazi indians.
Mormons settled much of the west. Church headquarters was built in Salt Lake City, but hundreds of towns all over Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Arizona, Nevada, and California were settled by Mormons.
The area settled or founded by Mormons covered all of present day Utah with parts of Idaho, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, and California. The Mormons proposed that this area be called Deseret Territory.
