it depends on the place you're travelling to. if its a road trip with your friends, somewhere cheap, the beds aren't concrete, and the room is clean. If you're going with your partner for your honeymoon or something somewhere tropical, and are staying at a resort, best thing to look for is:

-distance from authenticity of the area (if it's tourist-y or not)

-open bar

-if the beds are comfortable (believe me, if you're staying 2-3 weeks, you don't want hard beds)

-pool is clean, and unlimited free, clean, towels.

-if the room is CONSTANTLY clean. if you get the odd cockroach, that's fine, because it's something that the housemaids cannot help and it's something thats native

-if the water is clean and drinkable from tha taps. if not, there should be unlimited supply of water in the mini cooler

-a nice welcome gift is always appreciated because especially if it's your honeymoon, they should be welcoming you.

-the food shouldalways be good, especially if you're paying $3000 for 2 weeks.

--ALSO DON'T complain about the hard floors, tv not working, and no slippers when you get there.

if you're in doubt, you can ALWAYS check on traveladvisor or somewhere. i find they are helpful, as i've done a fair bit of travelling and have discovered that the more i check into potential hotels and see positive feedback, when i check into the hotel, i've happy with what i find :)

hope this helps :)
