Most authentic Waterford Crystal items are marked with the Waterford logo, which typically includes an etched or engraved emblem. This marking helps to verify the authenticity and quality of the crystal. However, some older or vintage pieces may not have a visible mark, and certain limited editions might also lack a clear label. It's always best to purchase from reputable dealers to ensure you're getting genuine Waterford products.
NO THEY ARE NOT ALL STAMPED
The current Seahorse label came into official use in 1986. Prior to that we used a Dolphin image taken from the Waterford Coat of Arms, with a Shamrock motif at the base. This image is based on a medieval artists impression of what a dolphin might look like and the artist portrayed it as a scaly "seahorse" like creature but with the tail turning to the back, opposite to an actual seahorse. This is why our current Seahorse label is anatomically incorrect and has a shamrock mutation in its tail. To this day old timers in the Company still refer to the label as the Dolphin but by 1986 most of our customers were referring to it as a Dolphin so the official change was made.Waterford Crystal Logo InfoOver the years the style of the Waterford logo and the Seahorse symbol have changed somewhat. Despite the changes, all Waterford products have continued to bear identification. Each piece of crystal is indelibly stamped, usually on the base, with the word "Waterford".In recent years, the image of the Seahorse has been paired with the word "Waterford" as the official backstamp. The stamping is faint, to avoid spoiling the crystal, and is best seen in bright light against a dark backgroundHere is a brief history on Waterford Crystal and a few other facts. The Penrose Glass House in Waterford, Ireland was founded by brothers George and William Penrose 1783. Due to the financial climate in 1851, largely due to excise duties the Penrose Glass House closed and never opened again. Any marked Penrose crystal would say "Penrose Waterford" So when anyone speaks of antique Waterford crystal they are speaking of crystal made in Waterford, Ireland by the Penrose Glass House only. The Waterford Crystal company we know today was founded in 1947 and that time frame is when the "Waterford" mark was first used. The Waterford mark was changed in 1999 to commemorate the Millennium and has a seahorse, like they use on their green and gold paper labels incorporate a into it. The first Waterford items marked that way were from their new Millennium collection. For those dealing in antique crystal; The Waterford company of today had no ties to the Penrose company. and while the Waterford company of today does claim Penrose as a part of their history; it's only about Waterford, Ireland history and both companies having produced crystal there.Great information, however all Waterford Crystal is not marked. There are two styles of marking that is used by Waterford. Etching is one and stamping is the other. Many of the older pieces and quite a few of the more elite patterns have items that are not etched or stamped. Lismore is a pattern that has many items that bear no Waterford marking other than the green and gold foil logo sticker.
Waterford Crystal is brand name, originally it was all made in Waterford. Now though it is very expensive to make high quality glass in a country such as Ireland. It is far cheaper to make in China etc. Waterford Crystal is a brand name not a promise.
AnsweryesNo, There are two different Fonts used by Waterford, and there are four different Logos used. There are even some of there very old pieces that have NO Waterford mark at all.
Most crystals that are sold are real because there are very few created crystals unlike diamonds. Looking at a crystal you can see how it is cut, the color, and imperfections. The only way to determine if a gemstone or a diamond is real or created is to take it to a jeweler and have him/her use the loop to tell you.
I think this is all based on opinion, but I have found many sites that say that Waterford Crystal Lismore is the largest distributor for Waterford toasting flutes.
Not all Waterford crystal is stamped due to variations in production methods and the specific lines or pieces being produced. Some items, particularly older pieces or those from limited editions, may not have the stamp due to changes in manufacturing practices over the years or because they were hand-crafted without a stamp. Additionally, certain types of decorative items or lower-tier collections may not carry the Waterford mark. The absence of a stamp can sometimes lead to confusion about authenticity, but many genuine pieces can still be verified through other characteristics.
Yes it is. I used to have many of them and had no idea that they contained lead. I have recently stopped using all my crystal glasses by Waterford after having tested over 9 times the safe level for lead. They say the headaches will go away in a few months. Regards
Waterford played Kilkenny in the 1959 All-Ireland Hurling final, beating them in a replay.

There was a segment on the Antiques Roadshow about porcelain. Their website re-airs all the appraisals. You can search porcelain/Nippon and see what pops up: http://www.pbs.org/cgi-registry/wgbh/roadshow/archive_search.cgi?q=porcelain+nippon&city=&season=&episode=&category=&appraiser=&value_min=&value_max=&x=0&y=0 In 1891 the federal government required all items being imported to be marked with the country of origin. In 1914 they required items to be marked "made in" and the country of orign. Then in 1921 the government said that "Nippon" was a foreign language name and required items be marked in English thus items had to be marked Japan. So items marked "Nippon" are from 1891 to 1921. Note unmarked pieces may be from this time period and had paper labels that are now missing or were made for the local marked and not marked for export.
