It depends on what town/city you're talking about. Movie theaters in New York City are always open on Christmas Day, and they do very good business. Because New York City has the largest Jewish population outside of Israel, a very significant number of New Yorkers do not celebrate Christmas. So, movie theaters, as well as a lot of restaurants (especially Chinese restaurants) are open on Christmas Day. And it's not just Jews who don't celebrate Christmas. Especially in Brooklyn, there are a lot of Muslims, too. In fact, over 170 different languages are spoken in New York City. So, if anything, Christians are the minority.
