continental tropical air mass.
Continental tropical air masses form where their name suggests: over land in regions in the tropics (up to about 25° from the equator). In North America, this occurs in northern Mexico. The air masses are characterized by clear skies and negligible rainfall. If one moves northeast into the Great Plains and stagnates, a severe drought can result.
A continental tropical air mass formed over northern Mexico would bring hot and dry weather to the southwestern US. This air mass is associated with high temperatures and low humidity, resulting in sunny and clear skies with minimal chances of precipitation.
Tropical storms in the northern hemisphere rotate counterclockwise while those in the Southern Hemisphere rotate clockwise.
At the northern part of the world and in the Tropical region
Continental Polar (cP): Cold and dry air mass from northern Canada, brings cold temperatures and clear skies in winter. Maritime Polar (mP): Cool and moist air mass from the North Pacific or North Atlantic, brings cool temperatures and overcast skies. Continental Tropical (cT): Hot and dry air mass from the southwestern United States or northern Mexico, brings hot temperatures and clear skies in summer. Maritime Tropical (mT): Warm and moist air mass from the Gulf of Mexico or Caribbean Sea, brings warm temperatures and thunderstorms.
It is in the northern hemisphere. All of the continental USA is in the northern hemisphere. Chicago is in the northern half of the continental USA.
A continental polar air mass forms over land in northern Canada. A continental polar air mass forms inland from the oceans of Northern Russia, Siberia and Northern Canada.

In the summer the continental Tropical air is found over the United States. Its source region is the relatively small area over the northern portion of Mexico, Western Texas, New Mexico and Eastern Arizona.
