Yes, he did! John Bell owned slaves and had lived on a plantation for many years!
The idea that John Bell ran on a strong antislavery platform is rather false. Bell was the third wheel in a tight race between Douglas and Lincoln; where he hoped to cause a deadlock in the electoral vote to send the decision to Congress where he would be a strong choice. Because he was not a strong candidate on the campaign trail and could not draw any support from the South at all.
president lincoln
Lincoln was the president who was antislavery. He believd all slaves should be free so he passed the endoclamation proclaimation thing and declared slaves free.
antislavery forces
The election of Lincoln to the presidency was considered to be both pro-slavery and antislavery. However, he was predominantly supported by antislavery forces because he fought for abolition.

because Abe Lincoln was for it...and he killed Lincoln...do the math
George McClellan ran against Lincoln on a peace platform for the Democrats. He was beaten by Lincoln.
Lincoln did not like slavery and wanted to end the practice eventually but he was not an abolitionist. He respected the Constitutional right to own slaves.
I'm not sure what "made" the Republican Party, but the first Republican President was Abraham Lincoln. Hope it helps!
Because he ran for President on a platform denouncing disunion and calling for an end to slavery in the territories.
