Did the kids from Pompeii go to school?

There is evidence of there being lessons for school aged children in Pompeii but very little is known about what was taught and where as there have been no school buildings found anywhere in the town.

However there is evidence that there was no set place for children to be taught, instead their teacher would just take his/her class anywhere where there was an available spot. e.g. the forum.

We know there were schools in Pompeii due to a carving on the wall of one if the exercise areas which talks about school fees being paid along with a list of who had paid and who hadn't.

Yes but Archaeologists have found no evidence that there was any sort of school building in Pompeii. Instead they believe that classes were taken anywhere there was space e.g in the Forum. We know that there was some sort of school because writing has been found etched into the wall in an open exercise area in Pompeii which mentions a man who is happy that he has received school fees from his pupils, and then goes on to give a list of the people tat have paid and which have not.

This also suggests to us that because school was paid for, that only children of the richer residents of Pompeii could attend school.
