Do Australian Shepaerds make good house dogs?

we have an unsteralised male austraalian Shepard and a kelpiexborder collie. Both dogs are fantastic with my 18month old who is a very in your face and loud child, the aus shepherd has not grown up with him the other one has and he is stil brilliant and very smart, i would recommend them to everyone

Yes, But be prepared to exercise your Aussie every day for at least 2-3 hours. Also they need lots of attention. If you don't exercise and give your Aussie affection you can end up with a very unhappy and maybe even an aggressive dog.

Remember Australain Shepards an very smart and excellent with other dogs and people. But they are are dogs that need plenty of space and a tons exercise.

If by house dogs it is meant that the Australian Shepherd will be in the house most of the day, then no, they do not make good house dogs.

These dogs are part of the herding group, therefore they require vigorous exercise daily. From 1 to 5 (1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest), they would be a 5 for exercise requirements. Since they have been bred for herding, Australian Shepherds should be bought to have as a companion animal who will herd sheep or duck, not as a pet to just have around the house. Without sufficient exercise, these dogs can become destructive with all their energy pent up inside.
