Not directly. Somewhat more popular- and probably more Italian is the legend of Befana, a good woman travelling companion of the Three Wise Men, who somehow became disoriented and wound up with immortality- and a charitable deeds mission not too different from Santa Claus. She is said to make the rounds at Epiphany- Jan. 6 The tail end of the Christmas Season-but then she got lost- Sort of a spiritual fusion of the La Traviata ( the lost one) and wandering-Jew legends-and a Good Gal throughout!
